🌷Amsterdam, a seductive City, where “anything goes” is also a City where you will find the tallest windmill and the famous brewery where the long tradition of beer is being revolutionised. -
🌷The De Gooyer windmill is the tallest, standing at 26.6 metres high and is one of the 26 corn mills remaining in the Netherlands;
-
🌷This large wooden, octagonal shaped windmill was originally built as a flour mill in 1725. The mill was moved to its current location at Funenkade in 1814 and it sits on a stone foundation which was part of a water mill that was destroyed in 1812;
-
🌷 Although, it no longer serves its original purpose, it remains a distinctive feature of Amsterdam, and is listed as a National Monument;
-
🍺Next to the De Gooyer is the famous IJ Brewery. The Brewery was opened in 1985, and is famous for its craft beer, a selection of organic and dark. -
🍺 If you are heading to Amsterdam this weekend or at anytime - find this Brewery and enjoy a relaxing hour or two in their large courtyard ~ you can walk, cycle, take the trams or even do a canal cruise to get here. -
🌷🍺 Check-our link in bio for this and more experiences in Amsterdam in 48 hours! 💞

#traveleurope Bicycles in Amsterdam! 🚴‍♂️🚴‍♀️
-
🚵‍♀️ One of the most popular sights in Amsterdam is the bicycle parking at Amsterdam Central Station, tiered and lots of them ~ as seen here in Pic. 1;
-
🚵‍♀️ Amsterdam has dedicated cycle paths as cycling is key to the City’s character; -
🚵‍♀️ It was fascinating to watch how effortlessly people take on to riding their bicycles, with their shopping and bags, without a fuss or discomfort. I have experienced this in Japan but it was my first in an European City;
-
🚵‍♀️ Did you know that in Amsterdam, the bicycles outnumber the local population? ~ there are 1 million bicycles to 750,000 people;
~~ so, you may want to look both ways when crossing!

#truelove❤️ 🌷Amsterdam - a City that portrays the “anything goes” image ~ from prostitution that is tolerated openly and the use of cannabis in fashionable coffee shops;
-
🌷It is a seductive City - often referred to as the Venice of the North, because of its canals and bridges;
-
🌷It is popular for its fairytale landscape which offers so much to see and experience ~ windmills, gingerbread houses and museums to marijuana, cheeses and tulips;
-
🌷Take a sunset cruise - listen to the tales of the City, admire the unique architecture of 17th century houses and the extraordinary gabled houses which line the streets on both sides of the canals;
-
🌷For Art Lovers - this is the City to be! ~ home to the Rijksmuseum and the Van Gogh; -
🌷Our visit to Amsterdam was on the ‘slow-side’ ~ No “do-list” and No “must-see” touristic places. We decided to be flexible, be kind to ourselves, enjoy our 5⭐️ hotel and make-up our visits as we go...and it was one of our most unique and memorable travel experiences so far! 💞

#footstepsofanolderwoman It is that Big Lake in the Alps, part Swiss, part French, with a light house that beckons you to sit along the shores and watch the Jet d’eau going 150 metres up in the sky, twinkling lights across the waters and the Alps disappearing in the distance as the sun sets beyond the horizon...what is left is just you, the sounds of the water and the blue skies 💞

🌳There are no real words to describe this place, called The Great Smoky Mountains National Park;
🌳One of the most prettiest sight I had ever witnessed is when driving through the Smoky Mountains National Park was the crisscrossing of the mountains in the distance that gets lost in the clouds and as against the blues of the skies which makes it particularly picturesque;
🌳The are many ‘pull-over’ areas throughout the drive that gives you breathtaking views of the mountains;
🌳You can drive through the National Park from Gatlinburg TN to Cherokee, NC;
🌳Part of the Appalachian Trail is here, in the Great Smokies, near Clingman’s Dome - hiking enthusiasts, you may want to check this place out;
🌳If you have not been here already, plan a visit here or get it onto your bucket list ~ the stunning natural beauty of the Smoky Mountains must be visited to be appreciated 💞. #thegreatsmokymountains

#natgeo My final feed on the Queen’s House aka the “House of Delight” is on the infamous Tulip Stairs. The Tulip Stairs is definitely unique! -
👑This magnificent ornate, wrought iron structure is one of the original features of the House built in the 17th century. It is the first geometric self-supporting spiral stairs in Britain. -
👑The paint, a quirky shade of blue is unique too, as it is derived from crushed glass. -
👑The Tulip Stairs is also popular for another reason ~ this is where the photos taken by Rev. Hardy in 1966 showed one, two or even three shrouded figures on the staircase. -

👑 Pic 1 - The Armada Portrait which is on permanent display at the House. It depicts the imperial power following the British defeat of the Spanish Armada, the hopes and aspirations of the people at that time and to reflect female power and majesty; -
👑 Pic 2 - Queen Elizabeth I was a virgin queen at the age of 55, at the time of the Armada Invasion in 1588. A “Mask of Youth” was created to portray her innocence as well as her strength and charisma. This is displayed opposite the Armada painting.

#havefundiscoveringlife Walking into this incredible building, I found myself standing within the four-walls of a cube 12metres x 12metres x 12metres which is referred to as the Great Hall. Standing in the midst of this cubic masterpiece, I realised that I was standing on the original floor of the House from 1630s, made from a striking black and white marble - seen here in Pic 1; 👑Then, I glance up. I notice a simplistic, yet beautifully decorated ceiling in gold leaf. It reflected painstaking craftsmanship of an intricate and unique design that goes well with the original architecture of the House. See pics 2, 3 and 4;
👑 A walk-through the 1st floor gallery gives spectacular views of the exterior and an idea of how life back then was. For example, Queen Mary II ensured that there was uninterrupted views of the Thames from the front facing rooms - Pic 5;
👑 On the other side of the 1st floor gallery square, there is the view of the Royal Observatory (blog + pictures on this coming soon) high up on the hill, across the Royal Park - Pic 6. The balcony here provides an area for the Queen and her ladies to watch riding and hunting taking place in the Park;
-
To read more on this magnificent building, click on link in bio. -
👑I have been to the Queen’s House before but somehow, walking through the corridors of 400 year old history this time around, was different in the sense I began to visualise how life would have been like back then...the frontal view offering horse-carriages instead of cars, more ships on the Thames...and hunting scenes in their back garden...

#onegrandadventureatatime The Queen’s House 👑 This remarkable Grade 1 listed building is the Queen’s House in Greenwich. Unlike other buildings with the name “Queen’s House”, this Queen’s House really was a former royal residence where Elizabeth I was born;
-
-
👑 It was the first Classical building in England, built between 1616 and 1636 designed by Inigo Jones, inspired by his travels to Italy; -
-
👑History has it that James I gifted the building to his wife, Anne of Denmark, by way of an apology for swearing in her presence because she shot one of his favourite dogs whilst hunting;
-
-
👑Work commenced in 1616 but was halted in 1619 when Anne of Denmark died. By this time, only the first floor was completed.
-
-
👑Work on the house continued again in 1629, when Charles I gave Greenwich to his wife, Henrietta Maria;
-
-
👑The House was finally completed in 1636. Additional wings to the building were linked by colonnades built in 1807.
-
-
👑Today you can wander around this magnificent building for Free which has undergone massive restoration in recent years and imagine what life would have been like all the way back in the 17th century. Who knows, you might experience some paranormal activities... 👑To find out more, click on link in bio
-
-
👑Swipe to see the exterior of this remarkable building. More pictures of the interior of this iconic building will be posted soon. -
👑This historic building has a tale of paranormal activities yet I did not capture any on my camera although I looked forward to! 😃 Have you visited a building that had a historic past of paranormal activities? -

#onegrandadventureatatime 🌟”Dusk is just an illusion because the sun is either above the horizon or below it ~ and that means that day and night are linked in a way that few things are there cannot be one without the other yet they cannot exist at the same time. 🌟How would it feel, I remember wondering to be always together yet forever apart?” - Nicholas Sparks, Notebook. 🌟
🌟
🌟Between sunsets and sunrises, I love the sunsets more because it seems to give me more time to enjoy watching the colours change, the gentle breeze getting cooler and moments when time sometimes just stands still...

#onegrandadventureatatime 🌷Retracing my footsteps as a Londoner has been an opportunity to learn more about London’s history and truly Appreciate this City that has risen from its ashes of 1666. -
-🌷I recently visited a 61 meters (202 feet) Doric column which sits right in the heart of the financial district in London, known simply as The Monument. 🌷
-
-🌷The Monument stands as a permanent reminder to the Great Fire in 1666 which started in a nearby baker’s house in Pudding Lane. -🌷
-🌷The fascinating fact which I was unaware of is that the positioning of the Monument was a significant factor ~ it’s 61 meters high is the exact distance between the baker’s shop in Pudding Lane and the Monument! -🌷
-🌷You can access a 360-degree view of London’s skyline through a 311 narrow-spiral stone stairs which leads to the viewing platform 🌷
-🌷This is one of the cheapest places I have been to - entry is just £4.50
🌷
-🌷For more on this historic place, please click link in bio🙏🏽

#nevertoolatetolivealittle👠 Come with me, my dear Insta family for a trip down my memory lane of Tokyo💞 🌷Tokyo, as we know, is one of the busiest metropolises in the world and besides skyscrapers, busy streets and the dizzying chaos of Shibuya, it also offers a number of green spaces within the City and in the outskirts of the City. To see a “complete” Tokyo, it may take 2 weeks or more! 🌷So, when you have so little time, like I did, just 3 days, and you have so much more to see, what would you do? How would you pack even the best of Tokyo in? 🌷Well, I decided to make each day count 💞 🌷I narrowed it down to experiencing the Best of Western + Southern Tokyo and a Day Trip to the outskirts of Tokyo. 🌷The places I visited were incredible with lasting memories and I am so happy to share some of them here with you; 🌷For the Best 3-Day Itinerary on Tokyo, click on the link in my bio
Shibuya, The Meiji Shrine, Odaiba, Tokyo Bay, Palette Town, Lake Kawaguchi, Mt Fuji 5th Station 🌷Japan is definitely on my cards for a re-visit, but for now, come with me and see: 🌷Pic 1 ~ The iconic Rainbow Bridge that connects the City of Tokyo to the manmade island of Odaiba. I sat on a bench on the shore front, watched the Bridge lit up as the sun sets across Tokyo Bay, the twinkling lights of Tokyo City as the backdrop and the cruise boats come out to play; 🌷Pic 2 ~ The unobstructed view of Japan’s tallest mountain, an active volcano and one of 3 sacred mountains in Japan;
To get this stunning view of Mt Fuji, you need to take the Kachi Kachi Ropeway ~ and as you ascend, you will have the incredible view of 🌷Pic 3 ~ Lake Kawaguchi 🌷Pic 4 ~ The entrance to the Meiji Shrine marked by this 12 meter high Torii gate which is made from 1500 year old Japan’s Cypress tree. I witnessed a Shinto wedding here too, which you can read in my blog by clicking the link in my bio; 🌷Pic 5 ~ Fascinating tip about this Japanese old style tea from the mountains that comes from the bark of a 100 year old tree - apparently it aids slimming! 🌷 Pic 6 ~ A scrumptious meal - Tempura at its best! 😋

Q: What is beneath the Monument?
Sorry to disappoint you guys but you ain’t gonna find skeletons or historical treasure houses - see the arrow on Pic 1 ?
Well, these grates under the steps allows for ventilation for the CAR PARK beneath!
And Pic. 2 (if you swipe across) is a stainless steel structure which stands at 11 meters high + satin finish ~ disguised as two air vents!
Isn’t this Square a remarkable piece of architecture? Combining history with modern commercial needs?

#onegrandadventureatatime What is next to St Paul’s that has its origins in Medieval times?
An open, airy with unobstructed views of St Paul’s, this square was:
- once walked by clergies of St Paul’s holding their rosary beads + reciting the “Paternoster”;
- Was destroyed twice - Great Fire 1666 & Blitz of WWII;
- Resurrected in 1995, preserving heritage and beautiful modern structures;
- Home to the Sheep & Shepherd sculpture
Guess what’s underneath the column in picture 1?
St Paul’s + Paternoster Square = 3 hours ~ makes a perfect half-day tour 🇬🇧 Click link in bio to read more! 😃🙏🏽 #paternostersquare
